QEHS (Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety) Leader

Role Summary:

Maintain and apply an effective Quality, Safety and Environment management system for the Maitland site.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage Safety (EHS) and Quality to ensure that the site remains compliant with EHS&Q Acts and legislation.
  • Ensure that all Steam Power QMS policies and procedures are implemented on site and ensure all contractors and subcontractors are adhering to the EHS requirements at site.
  • Drive the implementation of GE EHS Programs and continuous improvement in EHS performance in order to achieve EHS excellence. This will include but will be not limited to emergency preparedness, safety risk assessments and EHS procedures, hazardous waste management, ergonomics, contractor safety and EHS culture.
  • Through consultation and agreement, establish safe practices, procedures and controls that eliminate hazards and/or risks at the work site.
  • Provide site safety inductions, instruction, training and support on an ongoing basis for all employees and subcontractors’ site personnel.
  • Facilitate the development of JSEAs and Quality documents ensure they are reviewed, accepted and signed off before the related site activity is actioned.
  • Communicate regularly in relation to EHS initiatives via regular site inspections, pre-start meetings, toolbox meetings and notice board publications.
  • Ensure regular site safety surveillance and inspections are carried out.
  • Action site safety inspections as required, record findings, prepare corrective and preventive actions and assign them for completion, follow up and review implemented changes for effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement a site Audit schedule to assist with formal system auditing, record findings on internal processes and those used by site sub-contractors.
  • Prepare and monitor the analysis and maintenance of EHS&Q performance statistics, rolled up monthly for reporting to the SCM.
  • Ensure that all EHS Injuries and Events (STOP Work, first aid, PSE, Near Miss, etc.) are recorded, investigated, analysed and communicated to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Record and investigate incidents and near misses.
  • Implementation and maintenance of the company quality management system, communication to all personnel.
  • Ensure that business activities are undertaken in accordance with GE Steam Power Policies and Procedures.
  • Audit compliance to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all Quality Control and inspection activities are completed according to requirements.
  • Report Non-conformances and Cost of Poor Quality.
  • Lead actions to achieve annual Quality targets.
  • Drive effective resolution of NCR’s, 8D’s & customer issues quickly, and prevent failure reoccurrence through applying Lessons Learnt process.
  • Identify high-risk projects, and ensure preventive Quality actions are planned and executed.
  • Ensure the Quality values, culture and ownership is continually developed in the workplace.
  • Ensuring all quality documentation is produced and completed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Identify and resolve systemic failure through appropriate continuous improvement actions.

  • To drive EHS , Quality & Rigour within the Maitland business and work crews.
  • To lead, participate & encourage training to enable growth in the business.


  • Graduate Diploma or Certificate IV in EHS
  • Experience in a QEHS role within the power generation industry / heavy machining environment
  • Experience with EHS& Quality management systems and auditing processes
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Able to lead a virtual team in a matrix environment
