The team

Working as part of the Legal and Governance Division, the Planning and Compliance team provides high quality legal advice on planning and compliance matters, and conduct litigation to ensure the protection of Council's interests. The friendly team is high performing and derives great satisfaction from assisting to deliver the diverse and tangible outcomes established by Sustainable Sydney 2030.

The role

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years PQE in planning law. Extensive experience in local government, compliance and enforcement will be viewed favourably.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Substantial post-admission experience in planning law;
  • The ability to provide clear, specialist, expert and strategic legal advice on complex and sensitive matters in the Land and Environment Court and other courts and tribunals;
  • An appreciation of the political and social context in which Council operates;
  • The ability to work independently and to contribute to an effective team culture;
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
