Testing and Commissioning Engineer - Rail Signalling

Due to recent project wins our Transport Projects business is now seeking to engage the capability of an experienced Signalling Commissioning and Testing Engineer (Rail) based from initially our Melbourne office and then to our Geelong office. This role will be specifically for our recently awarded Warrnambool Line Upgrade.

Reporting to the Operations Manager for Rail Infrastructure, you will be responsible for supporting the project and providing testing expertise through the planning and implementation of commissioning activities of works throughout Regional Rail Line Upgrade.

Key Responsibilities include;

You will be the person responsible for the implementation of an effective, proven, auditable process for verification and validation of the safety integrity of the signalling system, and for compliance of signalling standards for the new or altered signalling when commissioned.

  • Providing commissioning technical expertise and guidance on projects
  • Managing signalling work groups to ensure successful delivery of major projects
  • Issue Permits To Work
  • Review and Authorise Inspection & Testing Plans
  • Review and Authorise Installation Work Packages
  • Review and Authorise Commissioning Work Packages
  • Undertake, Monitor and Audit installation, test and commissioning activities
  • Ensuring works are delivered to relevant standards and specifications
  • Ensuring an effective interface with other disciplines on site, including track and civil
  • Assisting with the development of project programs and progress reporting
  • Prepare monitor and Update the Commissioning Program
  • Participate in tendering opportunities by providing technical insight
  • Effective consultation and communication with internal branches
  • Maintaining and building relationships with clients
  • Ultimately responsible for the inspection, testing and certification of the project from concept till completion and bringing the signalling works into use


  • Extensive experience in the signalling industry and sufficient experience in commissioning experience in rail signals
  • Accredited Signalling Engineer, holding a current Certificate of Competency relevant to the position
  • Tertiary Qualification advantageous but not essential
  • Demonstrated experience operating at a similar level within the rail industry
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of rail signalling projects to specification
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality systems
  • Working knowledge of relevant Rail Safety / OH&S as applied to the Rail industry
  • Demonstrated ability in liaising and building relationships with clients
