About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Reliability Engineering within the Rail Infrastructure team, you will provide specialist advice, executing analysis and benchmarking of the Maintenance function's end-to-end performance and identifying improvement initiatives that enable functional excellence.
You will also provide technical support by providing engineering assistance and guidance on standards, compliance and advice on the recommendations and requirements laid out in the Signals Code of Practice to ensure optimal reliability of the Signals equipment.
You will also undertake the following:
  • Demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Undertake site inspections, audits and verification of works that have been completed by the execution team to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure critical controls are in place for the identified material risks within the signalling maintenance function.
  • Identification of root cause for track related defects, development of short, medium and long term actions to rectify underlying cause and prevent recurrence
  • Provide feedback to Reliability Engineering team to improve asset safety and reliability and ensure ownership of the same until completion.
  • Contribute to Maintenance Requirements Analysis and monitor and provide guidance on mean time between failure trends of asset life cycle.
  • Collaborate directly with Signalling Inspectors and carry out hierarchy of inspections and scoping activities
  • Support engineering requests to improve track equipment safety and reliability
  • Positively influence and shape the culture, ensuring a safe, productive, and sustainable approach to work

As the successful applicant, you will be working a 5 days on, 2 days off 4 days on 3 days off FIFO or a 5/2 residential roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.
The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife. Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:
  • CERT IV in Electrical – Railway Signalling (Unrestricted Electrical Licence)
  • Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers – Associate Member(AMIRSE) (Desirable)
  • Engineering Technician (EngTech) Professional Registration (Desirable)
  • A proven track record of safety management
  • Strong communication, negotiation, influencing and relationship management skills
  • Excellent time management and work prioritisation
  • Proficient skills in data analysis, trending and defect elimination
  • Ability to problem solve and determine root cause as well as solutions to manage and rectify
  • Preferably a minimum of 5 years working in the railway signalling industry, and experience of at least 12 months in a technical position.
  • Sound understanding of technical signalling related issues, causes and solutions
  • Experience in Asset Management monitoring and Maintenance Requirements Analysis
  • Experience using 1SAP (preferred but not critical)
  • Manual C Class License
