Senior Acoustic Engineer

Acoustics affects many aspects of our daily lives, Mott MacDonald helps clients manage acoustics, noise and vibration in their buildings in the residential, commercial, transport, education and health, municipal, sports and leisure and performing arts sectors. We also undertake noise and vibration impact assessment for transportation schemes such as road and rail.

Our services include:
Modelling, prediction, investigation and design services to minimise noise and vibration
Assessment and appraisal of noise and vibration impact of infrastructure schemes at all stages
Facade design to control external noise intrusion
Architectural acoustic design to optimise acoustic comfort
Electro-acoustic design to enhance intelligibility of life safety communication systems

We are looking for an experienced individual who wants to develop their career by joining our growing acoustics team and to contribute to some of the most exciting buildings, highways and transportation infrastructure projects in ANZ as part of our wider Building Sciences sector.

What you will be doing:
Calculation, prediction and assessment of noise and vibration associated with transportation, power and energy, utilities, buildings
Directing and undertaking noise and vibration measurement surveys
Calculation, prediction, assessment and mitigation of noise and vibration from civil engineering construction, industrial sites and maintenance operations
Calculation and assessment of buildings acoustics
Preparation of noise input to environmental assessments
Preparation of reports
Supervision of junior staff
Business development activities
Project management


What we are looking for:
Degree or similar in acoustics/vibration related field
Proven technical ability in terms of problem solving and analytical thinking
Software capability using Soundplan, EASE, INSUL
Ability to manage time, resources and projects effectively
Transport and/or buildings acoustics experience ideally in Rail and Roads
Willing and able to work within team environment and involve others where necessary
Supervision and mentoring of junior staff
Experience in developing and managing relationships with clients
Ability to write technical reports
Essential competencies / skills:
Acoustic modelling
Noise surveys
Report writing
Use of MS Word and Excel
Presentation of complex acoustic issues to non-specialists at project and client meetings and workshops
Driving licence
Desirable competencies / skills:
Use of GIS software
Public exhibition/inquiry/expert witness
Familiar with acoustic requirements of complex building projects
Understanding of project management requirements in a multi-disciplinary consultancy
