About you

You are an experienced lawyer who thrives on the delivery of legal advice in relation to financial crime , supporting the organisation to operate within its legal risk appetite and prioritises fairness to NAB customers.

What you will be doing

Your focus is to advise NAB Group (including our Risk and Operations functions) on NAB’s AML/CTF Programme and the application of relevant legislation in relation to preventing financial crime. Ideally you would also have experience in advising on anti-bribery and corruption and sanctions. You will also contribute effectively as a member of the Financial Crime and Privacy Legal team.

You see your accomplishments in the provision of high quality, consistent, commercially relevant, timely and cost effective legal services to NAB Group. You will support the Head of Financial Crime and Privacy Legal in their role including in relation to senior stakeholder engagement and risk management.

What you will bring

You have a Bachelor of Laws and you are admitted to Practice as a Barrister or Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW or Victoria (or equivalent in another jurisdiction) and hold a current Legal Practising Certificate in NSW or Victoria. You have excellent stakeholder management expertise, and the ability to build credibility with business partners, underpinned by first class communication and influencing skills. As an outstanding subject matter expert, you have:

  • 5 - 10 years PQE practising (for at least part of that time) in financial crime, or you may have experience in financial services regulation and have an interest in developing a specialisation in financial crime
  • Experience and maturity to work autonomously and juggle competing demands in a very busy and energised environment
    Excellent organisational skills, including prioritisation and time management
  • Clear thinking and excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including ability to adapt to different circumstances and stakeholder groups
  • Strong core skills regarding problem solving and influencing

Your experience may be in a different industry from financial services.

Your team is one of a number of teams in NAB Legal that specialises in current and emerging regulatory issues including environmental, social and governance matters, competition law, regulatory change and strategy. We are a relatively new team, drawing on expertise and experience developed within NAB and sourced from other industries and private practice. We are focused on developing and deepening our expertise in response to emerging risks for our customers and the banking industry.
