We believe in the inherent strength of a vibrant, diverse and inclusive workforce. Our varied backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences help us forge strong connections with our customers, innovate, and make better decisions for our business.
To achieve game-changing customer experiences, we know the importance of creating an inclusive culture where our people can ‘be themselves at work’. This brings diversity of thought and innovative ideas, ultimately leading to ‘yes’ moments for our customers.
To achieve our business goals we have four focus areas:
1. Gender diversity
Our goal is to create gender balance by increasing our female representation in leadership and key technical roles.
We continue to foster a culture where LGBTIQ+ employees are confident expressing themselves.
2. Multigenerational workplace
Building a truly inclusive workplace where people at different life and careers stages feel valued and supported.
3. Cultural Diversity
Understanding and harnessing our varied cultural contributions and increasing our Indigenous workforce.
4. Differing Abilities
We are focused on creating a workplace that is welcoming, inclusive and accessible for everyone; a disability confident employer.
Freedom to be flexible
We’re proud to have some of the best talent around, but also understand that our people have a life outside work. That’s why we’ve got a flexible work policy. It means if our people need to work varied hours, part-time or remotely, we do our best to help make it happen.
In fact, 70% of our people taking advantage of flexible working in some capacity.
Of course, flexible working isn’t suitable for everyone or every role, but we have lots of options you can check out.
Some of the options include:
- Telecommuting: working from home or off-site
- Part-time work: working part time hours to allow for more time at home
- Job sharing: job sharing with another person
- Flexible hours: varying your start and finish times
Say ‘Yes’ to feeling valued and engaged
And it doesn’t end at our flexible work policy…
Flexing Annual Leave
Flexing annual leave allows our people to buy or sell one week of annual leave each year, according to their personal preference.
We place great emphasis on helping employees balance their work and family commitments. To this end we have engaged the consultancy services of Families At Work to provide support and advice for employees about their dependant care options and to help them find out about services available in the community. Optus offers this support to its employees to help alleviate some of the worry associated with looking after dependent members of the family.
Flexible Salary Packaging
Our people can tailor their remuneration to suit personal needs and circumstances. Salary packaging allows people to choose how much remuneration is taken in cash and how much is packaged towards other benefits such as novated lease cars, shares, childcare, gym membership, superannuation, as well as tax and financial advice.
My career, my way
Our My Career Intranet supports our people with their career aspirations and gives information to help plan and manage a career. It also provides job search and job alert functions to alert users to internal vacancies as they become available.
We are committed to providing continued career development in order to realise the full potential of every employee. ‘My Learning’ is an online learning and development tool that gives our people the ability to track, plan and measure learning and development – helping them achieve their career goals.
